Grobrain helps Flintshire County Council address the negative impact of COVID-19 on infant mental health.

Grobrain recently delivered all 3 of their courses to a range of practitioners involved in early years across Flintshire County. The Council are aware that there has been an increase in the number of young children experiencing poor mental health, the possible effects of COVID-19 on Infant Mental Health. They hope to tackle this issue by training up health practitioners in our courses which can be delivered to young children and families across the County.

We delivered our Foundation, Baby and Toddler courses to a range of practitioners from different teams including: Flying Start teaching staff, Flying Start Family Workers, staff from Child Care settings, Private Nurseries, Child Minders, staff from Third Sector organisations,  teachers and teaching assistants. They hope that by training up a great number of staff they can help more young children across the County.

Amanda Williams, Flying Start Health Visitor for Flintshire County Council EYPF Staff Development and Training Officer, says: “The most helpful part of the training was the understanding of the development of the infant brain and how this is influenced by the child’s experiences, relationships and environment. This has empowered the staff and practitioners to help and support the mental health of young children and families in Flintshire”.

With grant funding available to address infant mental health development and the effects of COVID on young children, they hope to tackle these issues with our courses. The Council has been so pleased with the training that they have booked 73 more staff members onto our courses.

Amanda Williams has also been pleased with the courses and has praised the Grobrain team saying, “my experience working with Grobrain has been excellent, all the staff are extremely obliging and helpful.”

We look forward to delivering more of our courses to Flintshire County Council over the next few weeks.
