Bridgend parents benefit from new GroBrain toddler training

Twenty Flying Start practitioners employed by Bridgend County Borough Council will be better able to assist parents in their care thanks to new training run by Camilla Douglas from well-established provider GroBrain.

Flying Start provides free help and support for children under four in certain areas of the borough. For several years, GroBrain tools and techniques have been at the heart of the way practitioners communicate infant brain development and enhance parent:child interaction in some of Bridgend’s most deprived communities.

The new GroBrain Toddler Course extends this knowledge up to the age of three and, amongst other things, blows apart the concept of the terrible twos, which many parents dread.

13 members of the team undertook a full-day training on the company’s toddler course using Zoom. Robyn from Bridgend said, “I feel privileged to have worked with so many families within the Bridgend authority delivering the GroBrain baby course. I am so passionate about these families having this information at the beginning of their baby’s life. Now I look forward to sharing the information from the GroBrain toddler course.”

Several of attendees were new to the borough and 13 in total undertook the GroBrain Foundation Course which is needed before moving on to use GroBrain tools and resources to run baby and toddler groups. Sophie said, “I found the love, stress and speech wiring aspects very useful as this is key to every child’s development. This will be beneficial to families I work with, as it is a great way to explain how important families are to their children.”

Receiving the training online was new to many of those taking part. Fay commented, “I was anxious about the IT aspect but it was great Camilla made me feel part of the group and involved everyone equally during the case study element and feedback.”

Practitioners are in discussion with Flying Start management to see how to roll the toddler course out to parents directly via referral from their health visitors.
