GroBrain Baby Course

The GroBrain Baby Course is for parents of babies pre-birth to 12 months.

It focusses on bonding and brain development, and the vital part parents and carers play in ‘wiring up’ the connections in their baby’s brain in the first 1001 critical days of life. This ‘brain wiring’ lays the foundation for emotional wellbeing and the way emotions will be handled in later life.

The Baby Course can be delivered to parents either ‘in person’ or online.

Baby Course Details

The ‘in person’ Baby Course consists of four sessions, lasting around 2 hours each.

  1. Bonding and brain development

  2. ‘Tuning in’ to babies’ cries and signals

  3. Communication and play

  4. Stress management for parents

The ‘in person’ course includes ample time for group activities, discussions, quizzes and a break for refreshments. Sessions can easily be tailored to the needs of your group. Babies can be present if creche facilities are not available.

The online course sessions are shorter, as it can be more difficult to maintain concentration.

Evaluation of Baby Course

Initial results from the Baby Course (assessed using MORS Baby) have been encouraging. We are seeing significant improvements in parental warmth, reflecting changes in parents’ perception of their baby as well as how they interpret and respond to their babies’ needs. Parents whose invasiveness scores were considered to be a cause for concern pre-course were scoring within the normal range by the end, demonstrating the impact Grobrain is having on parents including more vulnerable families.

What parents have said

“We have learnt how important it is to make sure our baby's mental health is being developed just as much as her physical body.”

“Through coming to GroBrain I have learnt how my baby’s brain works and how I can help them grow and learn, hopefully making my baby calmer and feel loved”.

“We have found it’s helped us to be confident with our parenting. We are patient with our baby and we understand the cues she gives us for different needs which we were able to spot because of the course.”

I was in a bad place and wasn’t brave enough to say how I felt. But I learnt so much. I was surprised how quickly babies start to learn.”

“I learnt how important it is to interact with babies. I now see that I need to keep calm to help her and really try to understand what she is trying to tell me.”

More aware of her getting upset and that she can’t control her emotions. I now go to her sooner to soothe her distress.”
